Vending Services Case Study - Middlesex Group in Basingstoke Hampshire


In November 2011, with ongoing factory refurbishments & an increase in their workforce numbers, it was decided to upgrade their refreshment services & several vending suppliers called in to present proposals. After deliberations, Hallmark Vending was chosen to supply the new facilities, due to their innovative proposals & their excellent service record.  Hallmark’s environmental, corporate social responsibility credentials & importantly their ethically sourced Pfunda Tea & Caffe Praego Coffee were highlighted positively and Middlesex were impressed with their leaf and bean to cup provenance

Before the upgrade

The machines were 6 years old & the areas needed refurbishing. Equipment included two hot drinks machines, two water machines, one snack & one can machine. Prices were set at 20p for all hot drinks. Two weeks before installation, Hallmark provided marketing material to advise the workforce of the imminent upgrade with artist’s drawings of the new vending shop fronts & purpose built shop fitting.

Work on site – Wednesday 25th January 2012

Equipment was upgraded to; two new Coffetek Torino Fresh Brew hot drinks, with bespoke graphics, showing the Pfunda tea plantation. Also supplied were one large glass fronted snack, can & bottle, two water and one glass fronted snack only machines.

The vending areas had all been cleaned & floors repainted. Work started at 11am prompt after the morning tea break. The drinks & snack machine were left operational ensuring no disruption to services.
All new machines had been set up & fully tested prior to delivery enabling simple plug in. The shop fitting team had finished assembling the machine surrounds by 1.30pm with all new machines in & ready to start work by 2.30pm The drinks machines were placed on free vend enabling staff to come & taste the new drinks & each received a free Kit Kat to go with their hot drink.

Post upgrade

The workforce was delighted with their new “posh” vending service with many comments on the improvements to drink quality & the much greater choice of snacks. They were very pleased to see chilled bottled drinks available as well as some healthier eating alternatives. The new water machines with improved chillers also gave excellent tasting water. Middlesex staff was interested to learn where their tea & coffee were directly sourced from & how Hallmark helped & supported these farming communities with various projects.  All prices were kept the same.
